COLLECTING   EXHIBITION  THESIS

Candidates submitting theses in the creative arts may prepare a thesis which consists of creative works in the form of exhibition, plus a dissertation. Normally the creative work component will not constitute more than 50% of the thesis.

Applicants for PhD candidature should obtain information from the Head of Department (or postgraduate coordinator) about the department's research activities and potential supervisors who are qualified and available to accept PhD candidates for supervision, prior to lodging a formal application. (see artwork)

The length of the dissertation component will be at least 40,000 words, which addresses, elucidates and contextualises the work. It is a careful, rigorous and sustained piece of work demonstrating that a research "apprenticeship" is complete and the holder is admitted to the community of scholars in the discipline.

Supervisors should advise students about structure, style, and general editing issues and should guide their candidates accordingly.  It is appropriate for supervisors to undertake some editing tasks, but within limits.  A thesis must express the candidate's voice. (see Chapter 1)
